JCRC Statement on Vandalism at Char Bar on Kristallnacht Anniversary

JCRC Statement

The following is a statement from the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington on vandalism that occurred at Char Bar restaurant in Washington, DC on Saturday, November 9th, the anniversary of Kristallnacht.

"We are disgusted and heartbroken to hear about the vandalism at Char Bar that appears to be the latest display of targeted violence against a Jewish-owned business.

The fact that it happened on the 86th anniversary of Kristallnacht (“The Night of Broken Glass”) makes the incident even more disturbing. However, we will not allow this incident or other acts of antisemitism to deter the Jewish community from displaying our Jewish pride; it merely strengthens our resolve.

We are working with the Metropolitan Police Department and in touch with local elected officials to ensure the perpetrators are caught and held accountable.

We have communicated with Char Bar’s owner to express our full support and in the coming days, we’ll announce a series of ways the community can show support for this beloved restaurant."
