The horrific slaughter of more than 1,200 Israelis on October 7th and the subsequent war against Hamas has fueled an avalanche of antisemitism in our community and our schools that was already at record levels.
The JCRC of Greater Washington plays an essential role confronting anti-Jewish hatred in schools, supporting Israel, advocating for financial resources for local Jewish institutions, developing relationships with elected officials, interfaith partners and law enforcement and espousing social justice initiatives.
If you want to join our efforts leading the Washington Jewish community's support of Israel and the fight against antisemitism, apply to serve on the JCRC Board of Directors.
The JCRC is the public affairs and community relations arm of The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington (JFGW), representing more than 100 Jewish institutions throughout the region, including synagogues, schools and human service agencies.
Applicants should be comfortable with the JCRC's mission and understand that serving on the board involves participating in board meetings and other JCRC events; volunteering time, resources, and talent to the organization; and serving on a committee or working on a portfolio.
Prospective board members should have held previous positions of Jewish communal leadership, must represent the agency in a positive way, and adhere to the agency's bylaws, which requires board members to make a financial contribution to both the JCRC and JFGW each calendar year.
Board members will serve two-year terms, from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2026. Please note that the JCRC board selection process is very competitive, and submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance to the board. The Nominating Committee will assume that the applicant has agreed to serve if chosen.
Installation of new board members will take place at the JCRC Annual Meeting on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Adas Israel Congregation in Washington.
The JCRC of Greater Washington is committed to a diverse, inclusive and equitable environment where all board members feel respected and valued regardless of gender, age, race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation or gender identity, disability, education and socioeconomic status.
Application deadline is Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
