JCRC Statement
June 30, 2025
The following is a statement from Ron Halber, Chief Executive Officer of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington:
“Jews are once again mourning a life lost due to antisemitism. Our hearts are with the entire community in Boulder that must now re-live the terror that was inflicted upon it weeks ago amid news of this terrible and senseless death.
Karen Diamond, an 82-year-old woman walking to raise awareness of hostages being held by Hamas terrorists, joins Israeli Embassy staffers Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky as innocent people who have been murdered simply for being Jewish. The explosion of antisemitism across the United States in recent years has claimed yet another victim, with no end in sight.
Waiting is not an option; protecting Jewish families and institutions from harm must be a priority now. Congress and the Trump Administration must act immediately to increase the Nonprofit Security Grant Program to $1 billion, expand FBI counterterrorism resources, strengthen hate crimes laws, and better address hate speech on social media. Otherwise, Jewish families and communities will be at even higher risk of additional violence and devastation.
“May Karen Diamond’s memory be a blessing. And may this nation marshal all of its resources to address the rampant antisemitism that has devastated our communities for far too long.”
