JCRC Statement
May 21, 2025
The JCRC of Greater Washington today released the following statement on the passing of Congressman Gerry Connelly, who served in the House of Representatives for 16 years, following his nearly 14 years of service on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.
“The JCRC of Greater Washington is saddened by the passing of Congressman Gerry Connolly, a longtime public servant with whom we have enjoyed strong relations dating to his 14 years on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.
Over the years, Congressman Connolly enthusiastically attended our legislative receptions, participated in Menorah lightings and issued proclamations recognizing the Northern Virginia Jewish community. He shared many of JCRC’s priorities — advocating for federal workers, championing affordable housing, protecting the social safety net and speaking up for the voiceless in our communities.
We especially appreciate the decorum with which he served during his 17 years on Capitol Hill, rejecting the decline in civility that has become far too common. That approach to governing and his dedication to passionately representing his constituents should serve as an example for current and future politicians. May his memory be a blessing.”
