June and David Trone

June and David Trone Breslau-Goldman Award, 2025 Gala

June and David Trone’s dedication to improving our community spans decades. A true powerhouse couple, they have each had a lasting impact on our region, through dynamic, principled public leadership, generous philanthropy, and hands-on service.

June Trone is in her second stint as a JCRC Board member; she previously served as the Maryland co-chair of our agency’s Education Program and Services Committee. She has been engaged in various Jewish and secular causes for many decades, including currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Jewish Electoral Institute, and previously being on the boards of KEEN (Kids Enjoy Exercise Now), LUNGevity and the Jewish Democratic Council of America.

David Trone founded Total Wine, which has grown into the nation’s largest wine and spirits retailer and is the largest domestic distributor of Israeli wines. He represented Maryland’s 6th Congressional District for six years, seeking bipartisan solutions on issues such as the opioid epidemic, mental health, medical research, immigration and criminal justice reform. Additionally, David passionately supported Israel, fought against antisemitism and BDS and co-chaired the Abraham Accords Caucus.

Together, the Trones’ philanthropic endeavors have been felt in our region and beyond. They recently provided the naming gift for what will become the future home of American University Hillel (to be called the Trone Family Center for Jewish Life). Previous gifts helped drive the university’s Jewish Studies Program and supported research on addiction and mental health disorders at AU’s Center for Neuroscience and Behavior. Their generosity has also established the Trone Center of Justice and Equality at the American Civil Liberties Union; built the Trone Student Center and the Center for Mental Fitness at David’s alma mater, Furman University; funded medical research at Johns Hopkins University; and underwrote numerous initiatives at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda.

June and David live in Montgomery County. They have four children.
