Larry Hogan Former Governor
Governor Lawrence J. Hogan, Jr. was the 62nd governor of the State of Maryland, serving two terms from 2015 to 2023 on January 21, 2015. In winning his second term, Hogan became only the second Republican governor to be re-elected in the 242-year history of the state.
As Governor, Larry Hogan cut taxes for eight years in a row by $4.7 billion, including the largest tax cuts in state history. Overall, after inheriting a $5.1 billion structural budget deficit, the governor left office with a record $5.5 billion in reserves—a more than $10 billion swing. Under his leadership, Maryland produced the greatest economic turnaround in America, going from 49th out of 50 states to number six. He restored peace and order to Baltimore City during the riots of 2015, reduced the cost of health care premiums by over 30%, made historic investments in education, transportation infrastructure, and protecting the environment, and was the only Republican Governor in the country to overturn a Democratic gerrymandered map. He even achieved all this while overcoming a personal battle against cancer.
Prior to becoming governor, Hogan spent more than 25 years building and running small businesses, most notably the Hogan Companies, a real estate development firm. In 2011, he founded Change Maryland, a grassroots citizen organization dedicated to bringing fiscal responsibility and common sense to state government. From 2003-2007, Hogan served as Secretary of Appointments under Governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.
A Landover native, Hogan is married to Yumi Hogan, a first generation Korean-American, artist and teacher. They have three daughters and five grandchildren.
